RDS Dublin
A couple of weeks ago we took a trip down to Dublin for a recycling and waste management tradeshow in the RDS. We wanted to get a feel for the sector and do some market research into who might need our services and why. This meant two long days of walking around chatting to exhibitors, collecting business cards and taking copious notes. It was a tiring but enjoyable experience, with many people happy to take the time to chat with us. Thanks to all who did, we hope to be chatting with you all again soon!
Design Conference 09
Last week saw Design Conference 09 come to Belfast with the morning session including keynote talks from 'Creative Thinker' Wayne Hemingway, founder of Red or Dead, and 'Nice Guy' Dan Germain, Head of Creative at Innocent Drinks.
It was a highly inspirational morning, with both speakers focusing on the personality and values of their respective brands. While Hemingway took us through a journey of how he found himself being labelled a designer (almost by accident), Germain spoke about how Innocent's success is down to focusing on doing one thing well.
It brought up a lot of discussion here at SOLID about our goals for the company and how we want to communicate our personality and values. Some exciting ideas have been born out of it, so watch this space.
Feltron in Belfast
Nicholas Felton is an award winning designer based in New York, whose work has been featured in The New York Times and WIRED among others. Probably best known for his annual Feltron Report, Nicholas was invited to Belfast to speak at the University of Ulster.
Felton's talk focused on his journey as a designer and the works he has produced since his time in college. With a meticulous approach to data and how to display it in a way that is both visually appealing and humerous, Felton's talk brought up ideas of producing our own End of Year Report and how we might document our progress throughout the year.
Jamie Trimble
One of our projects that has got us excited recently is the new branding and website of photographer Jamie Trimble. Jamie's work is currently displayed through a Flickr account, but provides little to no detail of who he is and the services he provides. It's our job to communicate this effectively, while allowing Jamie's photos to do the main talking.
We presented Jamie with a slideshow of our conceptual work for his brand and website. Our goal with these presentations is always to spark enthusiasm and ideas in the client and get them thinking about the possiblities that can be had from their experience with us, so imagine our delight when Jamie's response spoke about his excitement about his new website!
Look out for Jamie's brand new website appearing here soon.
